Dear Sirs,
my first running took me eight minutes, less than 1km, and a frustrating walk home. That was in 1995. Since then, I have not become a master runner, but I have learned to love it.
All of this, which has been a life changing experience, I owe to my father. He is a more experienced runner and I have joined him for the marathon in London, Paris, Rome and, of course, Lisbon. We split jobs. He runs. I take pictures. Last year, when I finally decided to go for a longer run, he was by my side when I crossed the finish line at Berlin Half Marathon.
I also have a brother. He has moved a couple of years ago to Macau, China. We have then decided run NYC in 2009.
It would be a chance for the three of us to be together and, in our way, celebrate family. For me and my brother it would be our first marathon. For my father probably his best birthday present ever. You see, 1st of November 2009, that Sunday where it all happens, he will turn 58.
In Portugal we don’t have an Official International Travel Partner so we went for the lottery. Me (Entry Number: 377008) and my brother (Entry Number: 377007) have been selected in the international lottery drawing. My father (Entry Number: 366946), was not.
I’m sure you can feel the gloom.
Before me and my brother cancel our entry, as it makes no sense to go without him, could you please let me know if there is any other chance for us to run together this year’s marathon?
This email is my extra mile for it. I thank you in advance for everything
Tiago
